巡り (2025)
audiovisual performance

巡り (meguri) is an audiovisual performance work-in-progess that puts together my material and creative research during my 2025 residency at Kyoto Art Center. it's still hard to put into words what i thought and felt and experienced during those three months-- i think it's partially bc i feels like a life-long investigation, to let media see me grow and get old and understand more. i have slowly been able to put ideas together in small batches, in blog posts, notes in my phone, etc, so i won't try to summarize it

i'll let you have the program notes i wrote for the premiere, which are really vague too ngl but they do make a case for what it was all about. all i have left to add is a remidner of my permanent gratitude for everyone in Kyoto Art Center who welcomed me during my stay. i have said it multiple times already but it felt the closest i have experienced to an irl dream

巡り conveys a traversal across the landscapes of media, online culture, and personal history. It serves as a crossing point where the imaginary of anime, the simulated of the digital, and the real, exchange meanings to create new ones. Uncovering these intersections through the friction between recorded materials, the artist assembles part of their results and their work during their residency period into this sound performance, and shares their journey for meaning, to allow the audience to create their own.

It is a pilgrimage to find meaning in none of those landscapes individually, but rather in the collision and collapse of them altogether.

" It is an adventure, right? Right? / 冒険でしょでしょ!?
In this world where the real becomes fiction / ホントが嘘に変わる世界で "
